Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant
SEND Teaching Assistant | Specialist SEND School Location: South Gloucestershire Contract Type: Full-Time | Long-Term Opportunity with Strong Potential for a Permanent Position Pay: From £92.63 per day (PAYE) Looking for a role where you can genuinely make a difference every single day? Axcis Education is working in partnership with an exceptional specialist SEND school in South Gloucestershire to recruit compassionate, resilient and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistants to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity for somebody who is passionate about inclusive education and wants to support children and young people with complex learning needs to thrive. Whether you already have experience working within SEND, are considering a career change, or have personal experience supporting a family member with additional needs, this school offers an incredibly rewarding environment in which to develop your skills and make a meaningful impact. As one parent described, the school provides "above and beyond support" and is truly "partnering in my child's development." The school's ethos centres around valuing every individual, helping pupils to aspire, believe, enhance and achieve. About the Role You will work alongside experienced teachers, therapists and specialist support staff to help pupils access a highly personalised curriculum designed around their individual needs and strengths. The pupils you support may have Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), sensory impairments, physical disabilities, communication needs and complex medical needs. Your day-to-day responsibilities may include supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and within small groups, assisting with communication strategies such as Makaton and PECS, supporting sensory-based learning, helping pupils develop independence and life skills, encouraging positive behaviour through a proactive and relational approach, assisting with personal care where required, and contributing to a safe, nurturing and engaging learning environment. You will also have the opportunity to work alongside speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and other specialist professionals as part of a genuinely multidisciplinary approach to SEND education. About the School This highly respected specialist provision supports children and young people aged 2–19 with a wide range of complex SEND needs. The school is widely recognised for its warm, inclusive culture, exceptional staff support and commitment to ensuring every pupil feels safe, valued and able to achieve their potential. The environment has been purpose-built to meet the needs of learners with complex needs and includes specialist sensory spaces, a hydrotherapy pool, forest school provision, creative arts facilities, adapted learning environments and extensive outdoor learning opportunities. The school places a huge emphasis on communication, independence, wellbeing and preparing young people for life beyond education. The leadership team describes their mission as creating a place where children and young people "feel safe and happy, do their very best each day, develop their confidence and enjoy their learning." Staff are highly valued, receive ongoing professional development and work within a collaborative culture built around relationships, curiosity, respect and high expectations. What We're Looking For We're keen to hear from candidates who are patient, empathetic, adaptable and genuinely passionate about supporting children and young people with SEND. Previous experience supporting individuals with SEND, SEMH, autism, learning disabilities or complex needs is highly desirable, whether gained through education, care, support work, youth work, voluntary settings or personal experience. Experience with PMLD, SLD, ASC or physical disabilities would be particularly valuable. Team Teach training would be advantageous, although not essential. A relevant qualification in Education, Psychology, Health and Social Care, Child Development or a related field would be welcomed, but attitude, commitment and willingness to learn are equally important. An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one, is essential. Why Join Axcis Education? As the UK's leading SEND recruitment specialist, Axcis understands the importance of finding the right setting where both pupils and staff can flourish. When you work with Axcis, you'll benefit from competitive PAYE pay, ongoing support from a dedicated consultant, access to a wide range of specialist SEND opportunities, and clear pathways into long-term and permanent roles. You'll also receive access to free SEND-focused CPD through our partnership with The National College. This includes specialist training in areas such as Autism, SEMH, trauma-informed practice, sensory processing, behaviour support, communication strategies and supporting pupils with complex needs. All completed courses provide CPD-certified certificates which can strengthen both your CV and professional development. This role is particularly well suited to career changers, aspiring teachers, educational psychologists, therapists, social workers, healthcare professionals, or individuals whose personal experience of SEND has inspired them to support others.
