SEND Teaching Assistant – Secondary SEMH / ASC / ADHD Location: Bournemouth, Dorset Start Date: October 2026 Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only Pay: £90–£100 per day, dependent on experience Secondary SEND Teaching Assistant | SEMH & Behaviour Support | Bournemouth A highly regarded secondary SEND school in Bournemouth is seeking an experienced, resilient and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team from October 2026. This full-time role involves supporting pupils with SEMH, ASC, ADHD and associated behavioural and learning needs within a specialist secondary setting. The school provides a nurturing and structured environment with small class sizes of up to 10 pupils, allowing staff to build strong relationships and provide consistent, individualised support. Many pupils have experienced barriers to mainstream education, so the school places a strong emphasis on emotional regulation, positive relationships, clear boundaries and trauma-informed approaches. This role would suit an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Support Assistant, Youth Worker, Learning Mentor or SEND TA who is confident supporting challenging behaviour and helping young people re-engage with education. The Role As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will: Support pupils within a specialist secondary SEND classroom Provide 1:1 and small-group support Support pupils with SEMH, ASC, ADHD and behavioural needs Promote emotional regulation, engagement and positive behaviour Implement individual behaviour and support plans Use de-escalation and restorative approaches where appropriate Adapt learning activities and strategies to meet individual needs Build positive, trusting and consistent relationships with pupils Support pupils to develop confidence, independence and resilience Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral staff Help maintain a calm, structured and safe learning environment The Ideal Candidate The school is looking for someone who: Has previous experience working with children or young people with SEND Ideally has experience within a secondary, SEMH, SEND or alternative provision setting Has strong knowledge of SEMH, behaviour, ASC and/or ADHD Is confident managing challenging behaviour and supporting emotional regulation Can use calm and effective de-escalation strategies Is patient, resilient, consistent and emotionally aware Can establish strong professional relationships with young people Works effectively as part of a wider SEND and pastoral team Is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning Why Apply?
