Location: Various locations across the UK
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm with PPA time from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm
Salary: £160 - £230 per day (PAYE)
Job Overview:
We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Needs Teacher with a passion for making a difference in the lives of students with high-level needs. As a key member of our inclusive educational team, you will be responsible for teaching and supporting students primarily diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), with most students working at a low level adapted for KS3 or KS4 curriculum.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, deliver, and assess individualised and engaging lesson plans that meet the needs of all learners within the class, taking into consideration the students' academic and sensory needs.
- Understand and apply effective teaching strategies that are specially tailored for students with ASC and adapt these as necessary to engage students and facilitate their learning and social development.
- Create a safe, supportive, and inspiring classroom environment that promotes a sense of belonging and encourages students to reach their full potential.
- Manage a class of 8 students, providing individualised attention and instruction to each student.
- Collaborate with a team of 3 teaching assistants to ensure effective management of the classroom and to provide a unified approach to teaching and behavior management.
- Communicate regularly with parents, carers, and other professionals involved in the students' education and well-being to ensure a coordinated approach.
- Keep accurate records of students' progress, achievements, and any issues that arise.
- Participate in continuous professional development to improve teaching practice and maintain up-to-date knowledge of current SEN strategies and frameworks.
- Uphold the school's policies and procedures, including safeguarding and child protection guidelines.
Essential Criteria:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK.
- DBS registered on the update service, demonstrating suitability to work with children and vulnerable groups.
- Proven experience teaching students with complex needs, specifically those with ASC.
- Strong understanding of the KS3 or adapted KS4 curriculum and how to differentiate this effectively to meet the needs of students with ASC.
- Ability to build rapport and effectively manage a classroom of students with various needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Committed to ongoing professional development to continually enhance teaching practice.
Desirable:
- A qualification in Special Educational Needs or a related field.
- Experience or training in PECs, Makaton, TEACCH, sensory integration, or other relevant communication and intervention strategies.
