Job Title: Teacher
SEND Teacher – SEMH / PRU – Barking & Dagenham
£190–£260 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | Barking & Dagenham
Axcis Education is looking for a confident and resilient SEND Teacher to work within a PRU or alternative provision in Barking & Dagenham, teaching pupils across KS3 and KS4 with SEMH, challenging behaviour and disrupted educational backgrounds.
This role would suit a teacher who can combine strong classroom presence with calm, consistent behaviour management. The successful candidate will be expected to build positive relationships quickly, maintain clear boundaries and adapt lessons so pupils can access learning without lowering expectations.
Experience within a PRU, alternative provision, SEMH school or behaviour-focused setting would be highly desirable. Teachers from mainstream secondary settings with strong behaviour management and an interest in SEND are also encouraged to apply.
About the Role
• Teaching pupils across KS3 and KS4
• Supporting students with SEMH, challenging behaviour and emotional regulation needs
• Delivering engaging lessons with a strong focus on progress, routine and re-engagement
• Adapting teaching for pupils who may have experienced exclusion or disrupted education
• Supporting pupils working towards GCSEs, Functional Skills or other appropriate qualifications
• Working closely with Teaching Assistants, pastoral staff and the wider behaviour team
• Maintaining clear boundaries and consistent expectations
• Helping pupils rebuild confidence in education and develop more positive attitudes towards learning
About You
We would particularly like to hear from teachers who:
• Hold QTS, QTLS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
• Have strong experience managing challenging behaviour
• Understand that behaviour is often a form of communication
• Can remain calm and professional when pupils are dysregulated
• Are confident adapting lessons for students working at different academic levels
• Have experience teaching Maths, English, Functional Skills or another secondary subject
• Can build relationships while still maintaining firm professional boundaries
• Can commit to a full-time, long-term role
