Job Title: Teaching Assistant in SEND School
Location: Tilehurst
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
Pay: £92.63 per day
Are you the kind of person who thrives in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment where no two days are the same? For the right person, this role is deeply rewarding.
We’re looking for a resilient, energetic teaching assistant to join a specialist SEND school supporting a mixed-age class of Year 6 to Year 10 pupils. This is a high-energy group of young people with complex needs, who benefit from structure, patience and strong, consistent relationships.
What makes this role different?
This isn’t a desk-based classroom role. Much of the learning takes place outside the traditional classroom setting, through physical, hands-on activities designed to engage students who struggle with conventional approaches. You’ll spend a large portion of your day on your feet—moving, supporting and adapting in real time.
What you’ll be doing:
Supporting students with a range of complex SEND needs
Assisting with outdoor and physical learning activities
Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils
Managing and de-escalating challenging and occasionally aggressive behaviour
Supporting with personal care, including toileting
Working closely with teachers and support staff to maintain a safe, structured environment
What we’re looking for:
A calm, resilient personality—you don’t take behaviour personally
Confidence in handling high-energy and sometimes challenging situations
Strong de-escalation skills (or willingness to learn)
A nurturing, relatable approach that helps students feel safe and understood
Physical stamina and willingness to be active throughout the day
A team player who communicates well and adapts quickly
Why apply?
You’ll be making a genuine difference to young people who need consistency, patience and someone in their corner. This role will challenge you—but it will also build your skills, resilience and experience in ways few other roles can.
If you’re someone who connects easily with young people, stays steady under pressure and believes in the power of relationship-based support, we’d like to hear from you.

If you are interested, then please click on the apply button and contact Sam Higham on 0207 580 2956 | Ext: 1038.

If you are not interested in this role but know someone else who might be, don't forget that we offer £50 in shopping vouchers if you refer a friend to us and we place them in the job. For more details, contact your local Axcis office.

This is a temporary position, unless stated otherwise.

Axcis is an equal opportunities employer and as such we do not discriminate based on age, gender, disability, race or any other equal opportunities criteria.

The company is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
