Are you a skilled and compassionate Teaching Assistant with experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)? Are you looking for a long-term opportunity in a supportive mainstream school?
We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join an inclusive, all-through school in Southampton, working with pupils across both the primary and secondary phases. This is a full-time, temp-to-perm role starting as soon as possible, offering the chance to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people.
About the Role:
You will play a vital role in supporting children and young people with ASC within the classroom and through targeted interventions. Working closely with the school’s SENDCO, your responsibilities will include:
Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with autism
Supporting access to learning across a range of subjects and key stages
Helping pupils to regulate their emotions, manage routines, and develop social and communication skills
Collaborating with teaching staff and external professionals to ensure individual needs are met
Contributing to the development of personalised learning plans and pupil profiles
This role offers variety, as you may work with pupils in Key Stage 1 through to Key Stage 4, depending on need. You’ll be part of a strong support network that truly values inclusive practice and teamwork.
About You:
We are looking for someone who:
Has a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a role supporting SEND pupils, particularly those with ASC
Has a calm, patient, and empathetic approach
Understands the importance of consistency, structure, and clear communication
Is confident supporting pupils with sensory, emotional, and behavioural needs
Can work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Ideally holds a relevant TA qualification or SEND training (desirable but not essential)
This role would suit someone with previous experience in a mainstream or specialist setting who is passionate about inclusive education and ready to take on a new challenge.
