Teaching Assistant – SEND Specialist (ASC, Reception)
Location: Poole, Dorset
Start Date: June 2026
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Poole, Dorset is seeking a dedicated and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team from June 2026.
This full-time role involves providing 1:1 support to a Reception-aged pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The school is looking for a nurturing and proactive individual who understands the importance of early intervention and can support a young child at a key stage in their development.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide consistent 1:1 support to a Reception pupil with ASC, focusing on communication, social interaction, and early learning skills
Support the pupil in accessing the EYFS curriculum through structured, play-based learning
Use visual aids, routines, and sensory strategies to support engagement and emotional regulation
Encourage the development of independence, confidence, and positive behaviours
Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement tailored support plans
Monitor progress and provide feedback to support ongoing development
Assist with transitions, play-based activities, and daily routines within the school day
Contribute to a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment
Key Requirements:
Experience supporting children with ASC or SEND, ideally within EYFS or KS1
Understanding of early years development and EYFS framework
A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with young children
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Relevant TA or SEND qualifications are desirable but not essential
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
