The Role As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Complex learning difficulties Communication needs Sensory processing differences This is a rewarding, hands-on role where you will play a vital part in helping children access learning, develop essential life skills, and achieve their individual goals. The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting children with SEND and committed to making a lasting difference to their educational journey. Key Responsibilities Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with Autism and complex SEND needs. Support children in small classes of up to 10 pupils. Help create a positive, engaging, and structured learning environment. Support pupils to access the curriculum and meet their individual learning targets. Use communication strategies such as PECS and Makaton to promote learning and engagement. Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Provide personal care where required. Encourage pupils' social, emotional, communication, and independence skills. Support behaviour positively and consistently. Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and senior leaders. Monitor and record pupil progress, engagement, and achievements. Contribute to the school's inclusive and supportive culture. Requirements The ideal candidate will have: Previous experience supporting children with Autism and a range of SEND needs. A strong understanding of complex needs and positive behaviour support strategies. Experience using PECS and knowledge of Makaton. Confidence supporting personal care where required. A proactive, adaptable, and hands-on approach. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. A genuine passion for helping children reach their full potential. The ability to learn quickly and respond positively to training and feedback. An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one). Full-time availability from September 2026.
