Location: Mainstream Primary School, Greenford, Ealing
Start Date: September 2026 (with trial days and the potential to start sooner)
Contract: Full-Time, Monday to Friday (08:30am – 3:30pm)
About the Role
A welcoming and supportive mainstream primary school in Greenford, Ealing is seeking a dedicated, energetic, and passionate Teaching Assistant to provide group support for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). You will work with small groups of up to five pupils within a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
The school is looking to appoint a Teaching Assistant for a September start; however, successful candidates will be invited to attend trial days before the end of the current academic year, with the possibility of an earlier start for the right individual.
This is a rewarding full-time opportunity for someone with experience supporting children with autism, particularly pupils who require alternative communication methods and consistent behavioural support. The role is ideal for someone passionate about SEND education and looking to build a long-term career within the education sector.
The successful candidate will play a key role in helping pupils access learning, regulate emotions, and develop communication and social skills. You will support engaging teaching and learning activities for SEND pupils in small groups of up to 4–5 children. Lesson plans will be provided, and you will work closely with class teachers and additional Teaching Assistants who offer support during lessons where required.
This position also offers excellent professional development opportunities, including training such as Team Teach and hands-on experience delivering lessons and interventions within a mainstream primary school setting.
The Role
You will support pupils throughout the school day, helping them remain engaged and focused during learning activities. Pupils are based in a dedicated classroom environment and have access to on-site sensory rooms designed to support their individual needs.
Key Responsibilities
-Provide tailored support to pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
-Support non-verbal pupils using alternative communication methods.
-Use PECS, Makaton, and other communication strategies to support learning and interaction.
-Deliver sensory and visual learning activities.
-Encourage engagement in learning activities and classroom routines.
-Support SEND pupils during small-group interventions and learning sessions.
-Deliver pre-planned lessons and activities to groups of up to 4–5 pupils.
-Manage and respond appropriately to challenging behaviour.
-Build positive, trusting, and consistent relationships with pupils.
-Create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.
-Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, Teaching Assistants, and therapists where required.
Requirements
-Previous experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
-Experience working with non-verbal pupils and alternative communication methods.
-Knowledge and practical experience using PECS and Makaton (essential).
-Ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively and calmly.
-Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
-A genuine passion for supporting children with SEND and pursuing a career in education.
-Patient, energetic, and empathetic approach.
-Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
-Available to attend trial days before September and commence employment from September 2026.
