Key Information • Torquay • Full Time - 8:30am - 4:00pm • £95 - £100 Per Day • Immediate Start Available We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist setting that supports students aged 11-16 who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) relating to SEMH and are unable to access mainstream education. This rewarding role is ideal for individuals considering careers in teaching, educational psychology, counselling, youth work, social work, behaviour support, or mental health services. About the Role As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who require consistent, nurturing support to engage positively in education. Many pupils have experienced significant challenges and may display behaviours that challenge. The successful candidate will be confident managing these situations calmly, professionally, and with a trauma-informed approach. No two days are the same, and the ability to remain resilient, adaptable, and positive is essential. Key responsibilities include: • Supporting students with SEMH and complex needs in the classroom • Building positive, trusting relationships with vulnerable young people • Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour • Promoting emotional regulation and positive engagement • Supporting learning on a 1:1 and small group basis • Encouraging personal, social, and academic development • Acting as a positive role model and mentor • Helping students develop confidence, self-esteem, and resilience The Ideal Candidate • Have a genuine passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs • Are resilient, patient, and emotionally intelligent • Possess strong relationship-building skills • Are confident managing challenging behaviour • Can remain calm under pressure • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Are committed to helping students reach their full potential • Previous experience is not essential. This role would suit graduates, youth workers, sports coaches, teaching assistants, or anyone with a genuine interest in working with young people.
