Axcis are working with a vibrant, well-organised secondary school in Barking & Dagenham who are looking for a confident and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with autism, ADHD and challenging behaviour. The school has a strong, structured behaviour policy, excellent pastoral support and a leadership team who genuinely value their support staff. It is easily accessible via the District and Hammersmith & City lines, with parking available for staff.
In this role, you will be:
• Supporting KS3 and KS4 pupils with autism, emotional regulation difficulties and behaviour challenges.
• Using visuals, routines, scaffolding and calm communication to help maintain focus and structure.
• Providing 1:1 and small-group support during core lessons, particularly English and maths.
• Encouraging positive behaviour choices, self-regulation and confidence-building.
• Working closely with class teachers, the SENCO and pastoral leads to implement consistent, child-centred strategies.
What we’re looking for:
• Previous experience working with autism or challenging behaviour in a school, youth work or mentoring capacity.
• Calm, confident communication and strong relationship-building.
• Someone reliable, proactive and able to adapt quickly to pupil needs.
• Team Teach training is desirable, but not essential.
