About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to support a child with Down syndrome in a mainstream or specialist educational setting in Wandsworth, London. This is a full-time position, ideal for someone who is passionate about inclusive education and making a genuine difference in the life of a young learner.
You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to provide tailored support, helping to create an engaging, safe, and positive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide one-to-one support for a child with Down syndrome, both in and out of the classroom
• Support learning activities, speech and language development, and social integration
• Assist with personal care, if required, in a respectful and supportive manner
• Implement individual learning and behaviour plans under the guidance of the SENCO and teaching staff
• Foster a nurturing environment that promotes confidence and independence
• Liaise with parents, carers, and other professionals to ensure consistent support
Requirements:
• Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly Down syndrome
• A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work as part of a collaborative team
• Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ, or equivalent) desirable but not essential
• Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
