Job Title: Engagement Mentors & Progress Partners Location: Secondary School, Hastings Hours: 8:30am – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday (Term Time Only) Start Date: ASAP - September Contract Type: Full-time, Temporary to Permanent Opportunities Available About the Role We are working with a supportive secondary school in Hastings that is seeking Engagement Mentors and Progress Partners to work with students who have SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs and behavioural challenges. These roles are about more than just classroom support — you will be helping young people to manage their emotions, make positive choices, and re-engage with learning. You’ll work closely with teaching and pastoral teams to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed. Key Responsibilities Building positive, trusting relationships with students who may find school challenging. Supporting pupils in the classroom and in targeted one-to-one or small group interventions. Helping to manage behaviour calmly and effectively, using de-escalation strategies where appropriate. Encouraging students to participate in learning and take pride in their achievements. Working with staff to track progress and implement strategies for improvement. About You We welcome applicants who have: Experience supporting young people with SEMH or behavioural needs in a school or similar setting, or transferable skills from youth work, sports coaching, care work, etc. Patience, resilience, and a positive attitude. Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly. A genuine passion for helping young people thrive.
