Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

We are seeking a dedicated, motivated, and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our friendly and supportive team at a vibrant and inclusive primary school in Christchurch, starting in September 2025.
This is a full-time position that offers the opportunity to work across both Key Stage 1 (KS1) and Key Stage 2 (KS2), supporting learning and delivering high-quality PPA (Planning, Preparation and Assessment) cover. If you’re confident leading whole-class learning and have a genuine passion for supporting children’s development, we’d love to hear from you.
About the Role:
As our HLTA, you will:
Deliver planned lessons across KS1 and KS2 to cover teacher PPA time
Work collaboratively with class teachers to support learning outcomes
Lead small groups and support individual pupils with targeted interventions
Contribute to assessment and pupil progress monitoring
Support the school in maintaining high standards of teaching and learning
Be a positive role model for pupils and contribute to the wider school community
This is a varied and rewarding role, offering the opportunity to work with children from a range of backgrounds and abilities. You’ll need to be flexible, organised, and enthusiastic, with the confidence to step into the classroom and lead learning independently.
About You:
We are looking for someone who:
Holds HLTA status or has at least 3 years’ experience as a Teaching Assistant in a primary setting and is ready to step into a HLTA role
Has a proven track record of supporting teaching and learning in KS1 and/or KS2
Demonstrates strong behaviour management skills and the ability to engage all learners
Is confident delivering lessons to whole classes
Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with staff, pupils and parents
Is committed to their own professional development and to the success of all pupils
