Job Title: Full time Teaching Assistant
Do you want to make a real difference in children’s lives right here in Taunton? We’re looking for a warm, dependable person to join a well-loved Church of England primary school as a full-time Teaching Assistant, working 8:30am–3:30pm, five days a week, at £13.70 per hour. Ideal start: ASAP.
About the school
This is a caring, community-rooted primary setting with around 230+ pupils aged 4–11.
In its most recent Ofsted inspection (October 2024), the school was judged to offer good provision in behaviour, personal development, and early years, whilst continuing to develop the quality of education and leadership.
You’ll join a school striving to grow, with strong emphasis on wellbeing, inclusion, and developing every child.
The role: what you’ll do
• Support pupils in small groups or one-to-one, especially those needing extra help
• Assist in delivering classroom activities and adapting resources
• Help maintain a calm, safe, positive learning environment
• Work closely with teachers, SEN coordinators, and support staff
• Build trust with pupils, showing patience, consistency and encouragement
Who we hope you are
You don’t need to tick every box — we care more about the right heart and character:
• Someone kind, reliable, and patient
• Someone who believes every child deserves support and encouragement
• Someone ready to listen and build positive relationships
• Motivated to work with vulnerable or struggling learners
• Local or within reach of Taunton (so you can be part of the community)
People such as recent graduates, youth workers, sports coaches, support workers or existing teaching assistants would be very welcome to apply. If you’ve got some experience, that’s a bonus, but what matters most is your values, energy, and commitment.
Why this role matters
You’ll play a vital part in helping children to catch up, feel confident, and enjoy learning. You’ll see small successes daily, and be part of a school that genuinely cares about its pupils’ growth—in character as much as academics.
