Job Title: Teaching Assistant – SEMH Support – Secondary School
Are you passionate about making a real difference for young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?
Axcis Education is working on behalf of a specialist secondary SEMH school in North Bristol to recruit a dedicated Teaching Assistant. This is a full-time, long-term role starting ASAP, with hours of 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday, term time only.

About the Role:
As a Teaching Assistant in this setting, you will:
• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils aged 11–16 with SEMH needs.
• Help students regulate emotions, build resilience, and re-engage with learning.
• Use de-escalation strategies and restorative approaches to support positive behaviour.
• Work closely with teachers and the SEN team to adapt lessons and meet pupils’ individual needs.
• Act as a mentor and role model, helping pupils develop confidence and life skills.

The Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for someone who:
• Has experience supporting young people with SEMH, behaviour challenges, or trauma-informed practice.
• Is patient, resilient, and calm under pressure.
• Can build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may have previously struggled in mainstream education.
• Holds relevant training or qualifications (e.g. Team Teach, de-escalation) – though not essential, as training can be provided.
