Axcis Education is excited to offer a rewarding opportunity for a dedicated Mental Health Support Assistant to join a friendly and supportive team within a school setting in Oldham, Lancashire. We are seeking a compassionate individual who has a passion for supporting students with social emotional and mental health needs. This classroom-based role involves working closely with students who experience trauma, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), anxiety, and other mental health challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and group support to students with mental health needs, ensuring a safe and supportive environment that facilitates learning and emotional well-being.
- Develop trust and rapport with students to encourage positive behavior and academic engagement.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and families to create and implement individualized support plans tailored to student needs.
- Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviors with patience and effective strategies.
- Monitor and record students' progress, providing feedback to relevant parties.
- Actively participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills in the field.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Previous experience working with children or young adults with mental health needs within the UK.
- Excellent verbal communication skills to interact effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- Patient, empathetic, and resilient with the ability to establish constructive relationships.
- A background in counseling or psychology would be highly beneficial.
- A proactive and flexible approach, with a commitment to the personal and academic development of students.
- An up-to-date DBS check or willingness to undertake one.
The ideal candidate will have a firm understanding of the complexities surrounding mental health issues in a school context and will display a constant commitment to student welfare. You should be a supportive presence in the classroom, enabling students to feel secure and valued, and you must be equipped to navigate the challenges that come with working with children with varying mental health needs.
