Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant

SEND Teaching Assistant – Bournemouth, Dorset
Start Date: November 2025
Pay: £90 – £95 per day
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday (term time only)
Job Overview:
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEND TA to join our small, vibrant provision in Bournemouth. This role is ideal for someone with experience supporting children with S&L difficulties and ASC, particularly non-verbal pupils. Knowledge of PECS and Makaton is highly desirable.
You will be working within a primary setting, supporting a small group of 6–8 pupils. Working alongside an HLTA and a Primary Teacher, you will play a key role in providing personalised learning and creating an inclusive, supportive classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the planning and delivery of tailored educational activities under the guidance of the HLTA and Teacher.
Implement effective strategies for pupils with S&L difficulties and ASC.
Use PECS and Makaton to aid communication with non-verbal students (training can be provided).
Track and record pupil progress, feeding back to staff and contributing to review meetings.
Provide emotional support and pastoral care, encouraging independence and confidence.
Prepare and adapt learning resources to meet individual needs.
Work collaboratively with teaching staff to ensure consistent support for SEND pupils.
Engage in CPD opportunities to develop SEND skills and knowledge.
Safeguard pupils’ health, safety and wellbeing at all times.
Requirements:
Experience working with children with SEND, particularly S&L needs and ASC.
Knowledge of PECS and Makaton (desirable, not essential).
Patient, caring and adaptable approach.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Understanding of the SEND Code of Practice.
Relevant TA qualification or willingness to train.
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain).
