Job Title: Teaching Assistant - Primary
Are you eager to make a meaningful difference in education, close to home? We are seeking a full-time Teaching Assistant to join a warm, inclusive school in Ilminster, celebrated for its caring ethos, creative curriculum, and commitment to nurturing every child.
Why this role matters:
• You’ll be part of a school rated Good in the most recent Ofsted inspection (November 2022), where inspectors judged quality of education, behaviour & attitudes, personal development, leadership & management, and early years provision all to be Good.
• The school is rooted in its community, offering children a broad and balanced curriculum, enriched by forest school, arts, sport, outdoor learning, gardening, and strong pastoral support.
• Classes in early years and Key Stage 1 are capped at 30 pupils, with dedicated support in each class.
• The school is committed to inclusion: it welcomes children from Ilminster and neighbouring villages, and works with local organisations to enrich learning.
What we’re looking for:
We believe that the right person is more important than the perfect CV. You could come from a background as a graduate, youth worker, sports coach, care worker, or previous TA — what matters is your empathy, positivity, resilience, and belief in every child’s potential.
We’d love someone:
• With patience, kindness, and strong communication skills
• Who thrives working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff
• Who is adaptive, creative and eager to support a variety of age groups
• Who is passionate about helping children fulfil their academic, social, and emotional goals
The role:
• Working hours: Full-time, term time
• Start date: As soon as possible, with possibility to convert to permanent after a settling-in period
• Hourly rate: £13.70
Who this is for:
• A candidate seeking a role of impact, where heart and dedication matter
• Someone who values teamwork, creative problem-solving, inclusion, and building pupil independence
• A person who wants to contribute to a school that cares deeply about the “whole child” — academically, socially, and emotionally.
What you’ll do:
• Support small-group and one-to-one learning, under teacher guidance
• Assist with classroom management, behaviour support, and fostering a calm learning environment
• Promote pupils’ confidence, independence and good learning habits
• Help with practical tasks: preparing materials, supervising break or lunch time, supporting with interventions
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCO and pastoral staff to help tailor learning to pupils’ needs
If you’re someone who wants to help children flourish, believes in inclusive education, and brings kindness, commitment and a growth mindset — we’d love to hear from you.
