Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Autism Support Location: Southall, West London (Excellent Rail Links) Start Date: ASAP – October 2025 Working Hours: Monday to Friday | 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM Contract Type: Full-Time | Long-Term Day Rate: Competitive (Dependent on Experience) About the Role Axcis Education is proud to be working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Southall, West London, to recruit a committed and nurturing Teaching Assistant for a long-term, full-time role. You will be providing 1:1 support to a Key Stage 1 pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The child is bright and curious, thrives with structure and consistency, and requires additional support with emotional regulation, managing transitions, personal care, and challenging behaviour. This is an exciting opportunity to build a strong, supportive relationship with a pupil and make a lasting impact by implementing consistent strategies and interventions to promote independence, self-regulation, and academic engagement. Key Responsibilities -Provide consistent 1:1 support for a pupil with ASD, focusing on engagement, emotional regulation, and personal care. -Confidently support and de-escalate challenging behaviour using appropriate and proactive strategies. -Implement and adapt an individualised learning plan, in collaboration with the class teacher, SENCO, and external specialists. -Use structured routines, visual aids, and communication tools (e.g., now/next boards, PECS) to support learning and development. -Promote emotional literacy, resilience, and appropriate peer interaction during both structured lessons and unstructured times (e.g., break and lunch). -Record and track progress, contributing to review meetings and regular parent updates. -Create a calm, safe, and predictable environment that minimises triggers and supports the child’s ability to self-regulate. -Encourage independence, promote wellbeing, and support daily routines with empathy and consistency. What We’re Looking For -Experience working with children with ASD and/or additional learning needs in a school or similar setting. -Must have the ability to support challenging behaviour and implement effective self-regulation strategies. -Calm, patient, and consistent approach — especially when managing behaviour or emotional dysregulation. -Strong interpersonal skills for working collaboratively with staff, parents, and professionals. -Familiarity with tools such as PECS, visual timetables, sensory breaks, or similar resources is a strong advantage. -A proactive, reflective mindset with a genuine passion for inclusive education. -Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (essential). -Relevant SEN qualifications or training are beneficial, though not essential — the school offers CPD and training opportunities for the right candidate. Why Join This School? -Be part of a nurturing, inclusive, and child-centred learning community. -Work alongside experienced SEN specialists and supportive senior leadership. -Access ongoing professional development and training tailored to SEN and behaviour support. -Conveniently located within walking distance of Southall Station, with excellent transport links. -Make a genuine difference in a child’s academic, social, and emotional development.
